Roger Byron - First Liberty

Roger Byron is Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute. His practice focuses on state and federal litigation of First Amendment matters and other civil rights issues affecting religious freedom. He counsels clients on Establishment Clause / church and state matters, equal access, religious land use, free speech, free exercise of religion, and religious discrimination in employment. He also advises government entities on policies and legislation affecting religious liberty.

Roger’s clients have ranged from large international organizations to small businesses, individuals, and houses of worship. While at First Liberty his clients have included, among others, the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, the International Conference of Police Chaplains, a Native American sweat lodge, a Buddhist temple, a practicing Nazirite, synagogues, churches, religious employers and employees, schools, students, religious organizations and clubs, people of various faiths, and state and local governments. In addition to legal counsel, Roger implements media strategies on clients’ behalf and has appeared on television programs and radio stations around the country.

Before practicing law, Roger graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1998 and served a six-year commission as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. After his military service he graduated magna cum laude from Regent University School of Law in 2007 where he served as Articles Editor of Regent University Law Review. He is licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and is admitted to practice before all federal district courts in Texas and Kentucky, numerous federal appellate and other federal district courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
