On Dec. 7, First Liberty will argue at the U.S. Supreme Court to protect parents’ constitutional rights to raise their children in accordance with their beliefs.
In International Partners for Ethical Care, Inc. v. Ferguson, we represent parents who believe it’s their right and responsibility to raise their kids consistent with their beliefs.
But the state of Washington doesn’t want them doing that. Even worse, the state will keep families apart and hide kids from their parents if they run away.
We are challenging a state law that says the government can hide runaway children—from any state—from their parents and facilitate “gender-affirming” treatment without parental notice or consent.

The need to fight cases at the Supreme Court level is greater than it has ever been. Right now, First Liberty has two cases before the Court and an additional seven petitions pending.
Fighting at the Supreme Court costs First Liberty millions of dollars. So, we’re launching a Supreme Court Defense Fund to help us reach new heights.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said parents can’t challenge the law until after the damage is done. In other words, the Ninth Circuit threw their case out, holding that they lacked standing to sue at all.
Now, we’re making our case to the Supreme Court to reverse that alarming decision—and protect parents and their children before it’s too late.
“Parents should not have to wait until their children are irreparably harmed to seek protection from courts,” says Ryan Gardner, Senior Counsel at First Liberty. “No family should face the terror of having their children run away to the state and then have those children hidden from them.”

The implications of this case are vast. Justice Alito, joined by Justices Thomas and Gorsuch, has said that the underlying legal questions of this case are of “great and growing national importance.”
The outcome will impact families far beyond Washington. Winning this case can ensure that parents across America are not kept in the dark. It’s an opportunity for the Supreme Court to make clear that parents have a fundamental and legally protected right to raise their children according to their own beliefs and to be involved in the most consequential decisions in their children’s lives.
We need your generosity now to help fight this monumental Supreme Court case. It’s an opportunity to protect parental rights and religious liberty for millions across America. Will you stand with parents in Washington?
