After Letter from Religious Liberty Law Firm, Texas City Will Align Policies with Governor’s Order and First Amendment
Frisco, Texas responded to letter from First Liberty Institute within hours
Frisco, TX—City officials in Frisco, Texas today stated that it will allow religious services that are consistent with the CDC’s 15-day guidelines and Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order. The change came just hours after First Liberty Institute sent the city a letter explaining that its previous stay-at-home order was inconsistent with the Constitution, federal, and state law.
“We are pleased that Frisco city officials responded quickly and appropriately and will align their policies with the CDC’s guidelines and the Governor’s executive order,” said Mike Berry, General Counsel for First Liberty. “Cooperation between government officials and the religious community during times of crisis is essential. We continue to advise religious institutions to follow the CDC’s 15-day guidelines, but we all look forward to the day the faith community can again meet together, in person.”
City officials amended their policy to allow religious services by video or teleconference, or by other means that comply with the CDC’s guidelines for social distancing, such as drive-in church services.
