Biden Administration Proposal Grave Threat to Faith-Based Organizations, Religious Liberty Law Firm Says
Group files public comments in opposition to new proposed rules that gut current protections over multiple federal agencies
Washington, DC—First Liberty Institute attorneys submitted public comments in opposition to the Biden Administration’s proposed “Partnerships With Faith-Based and Neighborhood Organizations” rules that would lessen federal protections for religious charities and other ministries.
You can read the comment here.
“Faith-based organizations and ministries partner with state, federal, and local governments to provide vital services to vulnerable, underserved communities across the nation,” said Justin Butterfield, Deputy General Counsel at First Liberty. “Discriminating against religious organizations that are driven by their faith to serve in these underserved communities hurts all Americans, but especially those who most rely on America’s religious communities.”
According to the comment, the changes to the Federal protections for faith-based charitable organizations “would render these kinds of religious providers unable to fulfill their mission to bring religious programming to communities that lack adequate social services. By conditioning their receipt of Federal financial assistance—a public benefit—on the severing of their religious activities from the program, the proposed rule would substantially burden their exercise of religion.
