Statement Regarding Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal’s Action on Louisiana Ten Commandments Law

New Orleans, LA—Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit issued an administrative stay, blocking the district court’s attempt to enjoin Louisiana’s Ten Commandments law.  The following statement may be attributed to David Hacker, Vice President of Litigation and Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute:

“We are hopeful that the Fifth Circuit will reverse the lower court and uphold Louisiana’s Ten Commandments law. Stone v. Graham is a relic of a previous time when the Lemon test censored religion from public life and is no longer good law. Placing this historic document on schoolhouse walls is a great way to remind students of the foundations of American and Louisiana law and fits perfectly in the history and tradition of America. We are grateful to Attorney General Murrill for fighting for this law.”
