Religious Liberty Firm Urges Adoption of New Texas Curriculum that Includes Optional Religious Instruction
Bluebonnet Learning provides religious concepts for elementary students.
Austin, TX—First Liberty Institute today urged the Texas State Board of Education to adopt new curriculum guidelines that include optional religious education for elementary school students. The board will take a final vote on the curriculum tomorrow. The following statement may be attributed to Keisha Russell, Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute, who testified in favor of the curriculum earlier this year:
“Supreme Court precedent has repeatedly confirmed that the Bible is appropriate for instruction in history, literature, poetry, music, art, government, social customs, values, and behavioral sciences. A public school can teach about religion and in fact should teach about religion because it ensures that we have a tolerant and informed society where religion is respected and not shunned. We encourage the Texas State Board of Education to adopt the new curriculum.”
