Religious Liberty Firm Statement in Annunciation House
Texas Supreme Court heard argument in case involving application of state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Austin, TX—The following statement regarding oral argument at the Texas Supreme Court in Paxton v. Annunciation House, a lawsuit brought against a religious non-profit, may be attributed to David Hacker, Vice President of Litigation and Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute:

“The Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act gives the courts a standard by which they must review any government action that impacts the free exercise of religion.  No free exercise right should be suspended unless the government can prove that it’s reasons to do so are compelling and are the least restrictive means of furthering those reasons.  The Texas Supreme Court should not lose sight of the importance of applying TRFRA to all religious ministries that serve our communities and apply it accordingly.”

First Liberty Institute filed a friend-of-the-court-brief in the case, which you can read here.
