Former Navy Seals Fight for the Rights of School-Age Children’s Religious Liberty
The select group of Navy SEALS seek to shield children and their families from the impact of religious discrimination they faced in 2020.

Charleston, WV—On behalf of former U.S. Navy SEALS who successfully won the battle against the Biden Administration and the Department of Defense from enforcing its unconstitutional vaccine mandate, First Liberty Institute filed an “friend of the court” brief in support of religious accommodations for West Virginia school children.

You can read the brief here.

“The lessons learned from the case involving the Navy SEALS should be a reminder of the importance of respecting the rights of conscience of all Americans,” said Jeremy Dys, Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute. “When government agents provide secular accommodations—like medical waivers—the government cannot exclude an accommodation based on religion.”

Miranda Guzman has two minor-aged children who have been denied access to public education unless they comply with West Virginia Board of Education’s strict policy that requires all school children to receive the Covid-19 vaccination. Currently the Board allows only medical exemptions and refuses to accept exemptions for religious purposes. A lower court ruling issued a permanent injunction ordering the state to honor their exemptions but the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals stayed the ruling permitting the board to enforce its policy while the case is pending.
