Rockwall County Installs Ten Commandments Monument at Historic Courthouse During Dedication Ceremony
The monument donated to Rockwall County will be a public reminder of America’s foundation of faith.
Rockwall, TX—Today, Rockwall County held a dedication ceremony as a permanent monument of the Ten Commandments was placed on the grounds of the historic, 1941 Rockwall County Courthouse. Mike Berry, Executive Director of External Affairs and Senior Counsel at First Liberty Institute attended today’s ceremony and released this statement:
This is a great day for the people of Rockwall County. Displaying The Ten Commandments on public grounds in Texas is consistent with Supreme Court decisions that recognize our religious heritage and the best of the nation’s history and traditions. The Ten Commandments are a symbol of law and moral conduct with both religious and secular significance for all Americans. We applaud the Commissioners Court for taking this bold step for religious liberty.
In 2019, First Liberty Institute won a case at the U.S. Supreme Court, The American Legion v American Humanist Association, which declared a presumptive lawfulness for symbols, displays, and practices that align with our nation’s history and tradition. The monument dedicated today was made possible by generous, private donations from members of the community.
