After 25 years with the U.S. Army, Scott Squires is under investigation. His mistake? Following his religious beliefs and the rules laid out by the Southern Baptist Convention, the religious organization that endorsed him as a chaplain.
In keeping with the SBC’s beliefs, Squires does not conduct marriage retreats or marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples. A soldier in a same-sex marriage has complained after being rescheduled for a marriage seminar – even though Squires made sure the soldier had access to the next seminar conducted by a chaplain who did not have restrictions.
First Liberty Institute is defending Squires, and Deputy General Counsel Mike Berry joined “The Morning Blaze” in studio to discuss this religious freedom case.
