Celebrating Our Presidential Heritage

President’s Day isn’t just a day for discounts and furniture sales: it’s an important day for remembering the rich history of our nation’s great leaders. After President George Washington’s death in 1799, his February 22 birthday would become the iconic day of remembrance—officially established as a national holiday in 1885.

While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly considered a special time to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

In this special NEW episode of Legal-Ease, watch FLI’s Lathan Watts explain the significance of this day as it relates to religious liberty — and how Washington, Lincoln and Reagan all relied on their religious beliefs as a source of encouragement, while leading the nation through difficult times.
