Plano, TX, March 16, 2016 – After President Obama announced his nomination of Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court, First Liberty President and CEO Kelly Shackelford said, “The best path forward for religious liberty is to not hold any hearings or votes on any Supreme Court nominee at this time. Instead, to uphold our democratic process, we should allow the American people to speak on this issue in November. After that, the next president and Senate can jointly make an appointment. Anything the Senate does before January 20, 2017, to consider a nominee would undermine democracy by denying the American people a voice in the future of their country.”
