We recently helped secure a great victory for parental rights and the people of Alaska.

Back in May, First Liberty teamed up with Elbert Lin, a long-time First Liberty network attorney, as well as with Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor’s team. Together, we defended the state’s homeschool allotment program from a facial challenge to strike down a program serving more than 22,000 children in Alaska.

On June 27, Mr. Lin argued the case on behalf of the State of Alaska in defense of the program. One day later, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled in our favor that the homeschool allotment program depended on by so many families in Alaska may continue.

“Attorney General Treg Taylor, Elbert Lin, our organization, and the rest of the Alaska Department of Law did a fantastic job defending this important program for homeschooling parents in Alaska,” said First Liberty Executive General Counsel Hiram Sasser. “We also commend Governor Dunleavy for his leadership in fighting to preserve important educational resources for parents who choose to homeschool their children in Alaska.”

For now, these programs are safe. But opponents have said they’ll keep challenging and fighting against these programs. First Liberty is ready to return to the frontlines of this fight and defend the state of Alaska. Whether it’s in the Last Frontier, or any other state in America, parents should be free to choose the education that’s best for their children and family.
