The Supreme Court is under attack. Stay up to date on everything that’s happening with radical court “reform” and efforts to undermine our judicial system.
Far Left Groups Target Justice Gorsuch, Demand His Recusal from Case
More than a dozen left-leaning organizations are fabricating an ethics scandal around Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. They claim it’s “unethical” for Gorsuch to hear an environmental case that’s before the Court this term.
The coalition recently sent a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts demanding that Gorsuch recuse himself from Seven County Infrastructure Coalition v. Eagle County. Why? Because Justice Gorsuch, while in private practice, was a lawyer for Philip F. Anschutz, a successful businessman with interests across many industries including energy. But Anschutz isn’t even a party on the case that’s before the Court.
This is simply another clear attempt by the far Left to create a crisis where none exists and destroy the credibility of the Court’s conservative justices.
The letter was led by Accountable.US and signed by groups such as Stand Up America and Take Back the Court, some of the most vocal proponents of court-packing, ending life tenure and other radical court “reforms.”
Bill Would Give Congress “Expedited” Power to Undo Supreme Court Decisions the Left Doesn’t Like
U.S. Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada recently reintroduced the Supreme Court Review Act, a bill they claim would “revitalize Congress’s ability to check the Supreme Court’s erroneous interpretation of federal law and restore rights by statute that the Court has taken away.”
The bill would create “streamlined procedures through which Congress can exercise its existing power to amend statutes or create federal statutory rights.” That includes a new process to “expedite procedures for the Senate to pass these laws by a simple majority.”
The Constitution already lays out the process for Congress to respond to the high court’s rulings. That’s done by both chambers passing a bill under their established rules and the President signing it into law. Passing legislation is a difficult task, but that was the original intent of the Founders when they formulated America’s legislative process.
Proponents say this is about reining in a “rogue” Supreme Court. But this seems like just another attempt by the Left and politicians to get around decisions they don’t like. This is simply about some who want to change the rules because the Supreme Court isn’t ruling in their favor. This would rig the system so that some politicians can get their way quickly, without having to go through the legislative process established by the Constitution.
Fix the Court, People for the American Way, Common Cause and a host of other radical groups applauded the legislation.
