IN THE PUBLIC ARENA
The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has proven it will stop at nothing to completely eliminate religion from public view, going after school districts, churches, Christmas displays, and now even our own currency.
In a recent press release, FFRF announced that it, along with 19 other plaintiffs, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury for its use of “In God We Trust” on national currency.
The group’s complaint “alleges that the religious verbiage is proselytizing, discriminatory and a per se establishment of monotheism in violation of the Establishment Clause.”
This lawsuit is not surprising coming from an organization that has attacked the National Day of Prayer and the Presidential Oath, in addition to its countless threats against local governments across the country over Nativity scenes at Christmas and prayer before government meetings.
Last year, FFRF President Annie Laurie Gaylor told The Capital Times “business is flourishing,” and the organization reported sending 1,004 of their infamous “demand letters” in 2012.
Right now, Liberty Institute is representing several clients in lawsuits brought about by FFRF, including the Kountze High School Cheerleaders and Jackson City Schools. We need your continued prayer as we redouble our efforts to be one step ahead of this aggressive group, which seems to forget that our Constitution allows us freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
As the attacks on our First Freedom increase at an alarming rate, we also need your generous financial support. Your gift will allow us to continue to defend individuals, churches, organizations and schools across the country that are facing religious hostility.
By God’s grace we have been blessed with a 99% win rate – with your help we can keep that record and continue to protect and restore our First Amendment rights.
