Camille Peeples Varone serves as an Associate Counsel at First Liberty Institute.
Before joining First Liberty, Camille spent several years in private practice handling complex commercial disputes, arbitrations, and internal investigations. Camille then worked as counsel to Senator Ted Cruz on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, where she advised the Senator on matters of religious liberty, free speech, life issues, and judicial nominations, among other issues.
After law school, Camille served as a law clerk to the Honorable Patrick J. Bumatay on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable Andrew S. Hanen on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Camille also served as the chief law clerk to Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, then-Chairman of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, for the nomination of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh.
Camille earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she participated in the Religious Liberty Clinic and was a senior editor on Stanford Law Review, which published her note, “Rights, Facts, and Relevant Inquiries: Surveying Judge Neil M. Gorsuch’s Employment Law Jurisprudence.”
Camille graduated from Duke University, summa cum laude, where she double majored in Public Policy and English. While in college, Camille spent a semester studying at Oxford University and a semester studying public policy and government in Washington D.C.
Camille works in First Liberty’s DC office and is licensed to practice law in Washington D.C.
