First Liberty and four former U.S. Attorneys General say the Supreme Court should be a focus issue at the next presidential debate on September 10th.

Today, President, CEO & Chief Counsel Kelly Shackelford—joined by William Barr, Edwin Meese III, Michael Mukasey and Jeff Sessions—sent a letter to ABC Network executives. They’re requesting the network and debate moderators to ask two questions about the Supreme Court.

“The presidential candidates have had little opportunity to explain their stances on this crucial issue,” the letter states. “As Americans prepare to vote for president, it would be helpful and appropriate for them to hear how former President Trump and Vice President Harris would seek to impact the Court.”

They say debate moderators should ask the two presidential candidates about their position on expanding the size of the Supreme Court.

The letter also says that candidates should be asked to explain what criteria they’ll consider when deciding who to nominate to the U.S. Supreme Court, if a vacancy should arise.

“No matter how the candidates answer these questions, kudos to the letter’s five signatories for asking ABC to treat this topic with the attention it deserves,” wrote Quinn Hillyer in an op-ed for The Washington Examiner.
