The far Left and media outlets are attacking our judicial system. Calls for court-packing are getting louder. And some want to go beyond expanding the size of the U.S. Supreme Court. They want to see even more radical changes to our nation’s most trusted branch of government.
Slate ran an article making clear the effort to “reform” the Supreme Court is nothing more than a political power play. They said the quiet part out loud, noting that making “personnel reforms” and “expanding the court to add progressive justices, for example, would make the court more likely to issue progressive decisions.”
The piece also suggested that court-packing wouldn’t be enough. On top of adding justices, they say it’s necessary to “disempower” the Supreme Court by stripping it of its ability to hear certain cases.
While the Left wants to convince Americans that “court reform” is about accountability, transparency, integrity or some other buzz word, this is really about getting the outcomes they want. Adding justices to the Supreme Court would be the key to countering the decisions of “Republican judges,” according to Perry Bacon in a recent op-ed for The Washington Post.
“A high court with a Democratic majority,” he wrote, “could quickly and frequently reverse the rulings of lower-level Republican judges—addressing the immediate crisis of a judiciary stacked with very conservative Trump appointees.”
One pundit referred to the Supreme Court as the “cancer at the heart of U.S. democracy,” claiming that “restraining” the Court must be the “first order of business” if Vice President Harris and Gov. Tim Walz win the election.
Many experts are saying the future of the Supreme Court is closely tied to the outcome of the presidential election.
“The now-vice president and Democratic nominee for president in 2024 reiterated several times during her previous campaign that she wasn’t opposed to a Supreme Court expansion, which would theoretically allow liberal justices to take on a majority role through new appointments,” Mark Paoletta, a former Trump administration lawyer, told Fox News Digital.
In addition to the blatant scheme designed to purge conservative justices, Paoletta also warned that Harris could be “even further to the left” of Biden on overhauling the high court.
“A President Harris would have a far more ambitious Supreme Court agenda than simply replacing justices who have retired,” said Mike Davis, founder and president of the Article III Project, an organization that defends constitutionalist judges and the rule of law. “She just announced support for term limits on the court, suggesting she would try to force Alito, Thomas and Roberts to retire. She also indicated her openness to packing the court, adding new seats to the nine that exist.”
“Make no mistake about it,” Davis added, “the Supreme Court – and our most basic constitutionally guaranteed freedoms – are at stake in this election.”
“After nearly a century of liberal political activism from the court, the Left wants to take the judicial branch back by any means necessary,” wrote Marc Wheat, General Counsel at Advancing American Freedom. “When the Left calls for ‘court reform’ to ‘depoliticize’ the court, don’t be fooled. What they want is an unchecked second legislative branch under their control again.”
