Popular Christian singer and artist Colton Dixon recently gave a shout out on social media to First Liberty and one of our clients!
We recently delivered an important win for two Christian students who love to express their faith in God through worship songs.
West Ward Elementary School in Allegan, Michigan initially said there was an issue with the students’ popular faith-based songs. One student chose Dixon’s Up + Up and the other selected Brandon Lake’s That’s Who I Praise. School officials told the nine-year-old student that he would need to change his song for the talent show.
First Liberty sent the school a letter explaining that students have a constitutional right to express their religious beliefs. In less than 24 hours, the school reversed course and said it would allow them to sing their chosen songs.
Dixon saw what happened to our clients through a post on First Liberty’s Instagram. He sent an encouraging video saying he was honored that his song was chosen for the performance, as well as thanking our team for helping the students.
“Kudos to the parents and First Liberty for standing up for our rights as believers in this country,” Dixon said. “We have the freedom and the right to do this, to worship freely.”
