This year, to commemorate National Religious Freedom Day on January 16, First Liberty Live! will be releasing a special episode featuring Dr. Jarvis Baker, pastor of Canaan Baptist Church (CBC) in Duncanville, TX, located just outside Dallas.

You’ll recall that right now First Liberty and Winston & Strawn LLP represent Dr. Baker and his church in a legal battle to stop the City of Duncanville’s attempt to seize their property through eminent domain.

Dr. Baker will share his personal insights on religious liberty and why protecting this sacred and fundamental freedom is so essential for the flourishing of our nation. His experience, words and wisdom on the importance of fighting for our God-given rights come at just the right time, as he explains how churches and people of faith can—and throughout our country’s history—have been a conduit of hope when America wrestles through social unrest and cultural division.

Additionally, with National Religious Freedom Day falling closely in conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 18), Dr. Baker reflects on the legacy of the late reverend and civil rights leader—someone whose activism and Christian beliefs, combined with the constitutional liberty to express and live out his faith, sent a ripple through the conscience of America and ultimately changing the course of an entire nation.

Make sure you subscribe to First Liberty Live! to watch this special episode being released on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Like thousands of houses of worship nationwide, Dr. Baker and his church turn their faith into action by tending to the needs of “the least of these.” They find inspiration and are guided by their religious convictions to use their church property to serve the community in the South Dallas and Duncanville area.

For over 50 years, CBC has served its community in a variety of ways, through clothing giveaways, care for the homeless, voter registration drives and countless others. Those they serve include many low-income, underserved and disenfranchised community members.
