In recent weeks, the radical Left has bolstered its all-out pressure campaign on Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). A scan of headlines shows just how little tolerance the Left has for anyone who dissents against their political agenda.
Politico launched an article called “The Left Hates Joe Manchin.” CNN wrote an article entitled “Joe Manchin just *Totally* Scr**ed Democrats.” Last week, a group of activists even organized a so-called “Moral March on Manchin.”
Why all of this vitriol?
For starters, it’s because Sen. Manchin says he won’t vote to end the Senate filibuster, America’s longstanding legislative tradition designed to prevent radical change to our nation’s laws with little reflection.
In a recent op-ed to his constituents, Manchin stated he’s going to stand his ground:
“I cannot explain…blowing up the Senate rules to expedite one party’s agenda.”
However, Sen. Manchin’s words ought to be taken with a grain of salt. Keep in mind that Sen. Manchin—and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), another swing vote on critical issues—have voted in line with President Biden’s agenda 100% of the time since he took office, according to analysis by FiveThirtyEight.
What’s more, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) explains in the video below that in past votes on key issues, Sen. Manchin has buckled and given way to the Democratic Party’s wishes:
The Mark of True Statesmen: Principle Above Politics
For the millions of Americans alarmed by the assault on their constitutional liberties, Sen. Manchin’s actions in the coming weeks and months could indeed be historic.
As one of the decisive votes keeping the filibuster in place, he is the firewall that will prevent the Left from ramming through some of the most dangerous legislation against religious freedom, including:
As alarming as these proposals are, they pale in comparison to the keystone of the liberal agenda: the Supreme Court Coup. This brazen attempt to stack the judiciary and establish an “Automatic Majority” (from the Supreme Court down to the lower courts) would end the rule of law as we know it today.
We’ve seen in other countries like Venezuela and Argentina that packing the judiciary is the gateway to tyranny, where citizens are only allowed to have the rights and “freedoms” granted to them by political elites.
Even as he faces mounting national pressure, so far Sen. Manchin appears to be putting principles above politics, and remains steadfast in his commitment to his oath: to defend and protect the Constitution.
While the Left attempts to blow up the bedrock of what makes America the world’s beacon of freedom and hope—such as our protections for religious liberty and our revered system of justice— Sen. Manchin poses what could be the most important question of our time:
“Do we really want to live in an America where one party can dictate and demand everything and anything it wants, whenever it wants?
Citing the wisdom of America’s Founders, and the brilliance of legal mastermind, Lord Acton, Sen. Manchin warns Americans that the downfall of liberty is rooted in one party’s ascent to absolute power:
“…Every party in power will always want to exercise absolute power, absolutely. Our founders were wise to see the temptation of absolute power and built in specific checks and balances to force compromise that serves to preserve our fragile democracy.”
Right now, Sen. Manchin is our greatest hope for victory in stopping the Left from wielding raw political power and turning religious freedom into a second-class right. And it’s no secret that opponents of freedom will only double down on their attacks against Sen. Manchin.
