Imagine a battle-ravaged flag flying over Fort McHenry, over the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, over Bastogne in Belgium, over Khe Sanh in Viet Nam, over Fallujah, Iraq, or over Marjah, Afghanistan. Full of holes and worn down by war, the banner proudly showed the pugnacious, inspirational, and patriotic spirit of Americans fighting for our country.

Many died so that we might live in freedom. Hundreds of thousands of others suffered both physical and emotional wounds, fighting under that flag. Medal of Honor recipients epitomize the selfless nature of heroic military service. They know better than we what patriotic sacrifice means while serving under that flag.

Now imagine what a religious-liberty flag must look like. It would also show signs of conflict with ragged, soiled, and shredded cloth. But it still flies proudly despite it all. Those who have held it high have been spat upon, sniped at, shouted down, persecuted, and driven from schools, churches, corporations, the military, and public spaces just because of their faith.

The thing is that the two flags are the same: Old Glory.

Now consider the alarming rise in post-World War II anti-Semitism, and you can see why First Liberty does what it does. Our clients have seen horrible bigotry and discrimination that has devastated their families and careers – all because they had the courage to stand up for their faith. They carry that flag into the fight, and we stand beside them all the way. They are patriotic citizens doing their duty for God and country, and so are you, as you support them.

There are numerous ways to fight this battle, and thanks to your generous support, we are waging the battle for religious liberty every day and winning. 11-0 at the Supreme Court.

But people often ask me what my biggest worry is about what we face at First Liberty.

To me, it is the uncertainty about what the religious liberty landscape will look like for our children and their heirs 25 years from now.

We are winning our cases, but what about those that are yet to come? Our current funding comes in each fiscal year, while some of our bigger cases last six, seven or even 10 years, and the future funding for those cases must depend on what we can raise then. This mismatch is worrisome, especially to an ex-Wall Street financier like me. This is where legacy planning can provide much-needed solutions to this funding imbalance.

Please prayerfully consider adding us as a beneficiary in your will or revocable trust. It’s the easiest way to leave a legacy for your heirs, and it doesn’t impact your current asset base. You can help stabilize the future of religious liberty for generations by doing so. Also, donating unneeded insurance policies, retirement assets, or large, concentrated single-stock positions can make all the difference.

So, raise that splendid flag of religious liberty, the American flag. Help us stay in the fight forever and fund First Liberty for the Future! Thank you for your current and future support!
