Coach Joseph Kennedy of Bremerton High School in Washington was fired in 2015 by his school district for praying on the field after each football game. Kennedy had done this for over seven years before it caught the attention of administration officials who warned him through a series of letters to cease prayer following the games.
Kennedy refused and was fired for not heeding those warnings.
That’s when First Liberty got involved, a nonprofit law firm dedicated to safeguarding religious liberty for all Americans. In response to the district’s firing of coach Kennedy, First Liberty sent a letter to the district on October 14, 2015, defending Kennedy’s right to pray by explaining that teachers and administrators do not lose their right to religious expression just because they’re employees of a public school district.
On Monday’s episode of “The Morning Blaze,” Jeremy Dys, Deputy General Counsel for FirstLiberty.org shared the latest update on Coach Kennedy’s quest to the Supreme Court.
