June 25th marks our second annual First Freedom Day, a special opportunity to celebrate our historic success at the nation’s highest court.
Because of our nine Supreme Court victories in recent years—decades of bad precedent have been overturned, and the future of religious freedom is brighter than ever before. All of this success is possible thanks to your support. Together, we’re winning and restoring religious freedom all across the country.
Throughout this celebration, we will be bringing you special messages from First Liberty clients like Professor Varkey, former client Coach Joe Kennedy, members of our legal team and our staff and even a special episode of First Liberty Live!.
Be sure to check out our First Freedom Day schedule to see what exciting events are going on throughout the day and how you can watch them. Click here to see the full schedule!
From the military, to our children’s schools, houses of worship, charities, businesses and the marketplace, our local veterans’ memorials and our neighborhoods, Americans have the opportunity to experience more religious freedom than in 50 years. How is this possible? Because of several historic and precedent-setting triumphs at the Supreme Court:
June 29, 2023: In a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of postal worker Gerald Groff who would request off to observe the Sunday Sabbath. This requires workplaces to respect religious accommodations so that employees across the country can work and live according to their faith.
June 21, 2022: The ruling in our Treat Children Fairly case, Carson v. Makin, held that states cannot discriminate against parents who want to send their children to religious schools. This protects religious education nationwide and helps ensure equal treatment for religious organizations.
We have many victories to celebrate. But the fight for faith and religious liberty is far from over.
First Liberty is handling an increasing number of cases legal and requests for help. There are many challenges ahead, but we also have incredible opportunities to secure more victories and leave a legacy of freedom for the next generation, our children and grandchildren.
A hostile corporate culture is wreaking havoc on religious employees. People are scared to live out their faith in fear of being harassed or even fired. Clients like Valerie Kloosterman, Lacey Smith, and Ron Hittle lost their jobs because of their religious beliefs. We’re fighting for them and for religious employees across the country, and we need your help to win.
This year, we’ve seen a resurgence in attacks against houses of worship, pastors and rabbis – the likes of which hasn’t been seen in a long time. From feeding the hungry to welcoming an outsider clients like Chris Avell of Dad’s Place, Jose Castro, Howard Kaloogian and Mike Polhemus need your continued support to win their legal battles.
Our clients don’t pay a dime for receiving top class representation from our attorneys. Your support helps us defend Americans, meet the challenges ahead and continue winning the fight for religious liberty! Right now you can multiply your impact with our $500,000 Challenge Grant.
Right now, there’s a war over culture itself. But a group of everyday Americans are standing up to make an impact. The Future of Faith and Freedom, an initiative of First Liberty, aims to educate individuals in their mid 20’s to mid 40’s on their religious freedom rights and empower them to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
