Religious Liberty Expert Warns Biden’s Proposed Changes to Supreme Court Would Violate the Constitution
Washington, DC—Today, President Joe Biden announced proposed “reforms” to the U.S. Supreme Court, including the creation of term limits and a binding code of conduct for the justices.
Kelly Shackelford, President, CEO, and Chief Counsel for First Liberty Institute, issued the following statement in response:
President Biden’s court “reform” scheme is nothing more than a desperate attack to subvert the legitimacy of the Supreme Court because it contains a majority of justices committed to the Constitution and originalism. Term limits are simply court-packing by another name and are designed to target Justices Thomas and Alito in an act of pure political revenge. If successful, the judiciary will no longer be a safeguard of our civil liberties, but will instead be little more than a political tool used to crush the freedom of Americans.
