Religious Liberty Firm Applauds U.S. Senate Bill Protecting Servicemembers Religious Liberty Rights
First Liberty Institute represented dozens of Navy SEALs, Navy personnel in lawsuit challenging Biden Administration’s military vaccine mandate.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), and Mike Lee (R-Utah) have introduced the Reaffirming Every Servicemember’s Trust Over Religious Exemptions (RESTORE) Act in the U.S. Senate. The legislation requires the Department of Defense (DoD) to establish a Special Review Board to audit the service-wide handling of religious accommodation requests related to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Last year, First Liberty Institute and Hacker Stephens LLP announced a settlement with the U.S. Department of the Navy on behalf of thousands of Navy service members who had challenged the military’s vaccine mandate in federal court.
The following statement may be attributed to Hiram Sasser, Executive General Counsel for First Liberty Institute:
America’s service men and women make tremendous sacrifices to protect their fellow warriors and our freedoms. No member of the military should be forced to sacrifice the very rights they fight to protect to be able to serve. We are grateful to these U.S. Senators for their strong leadership in protecting the religious liberty rights of our brave servicemembers.
