U.S. Postal Service Ends Revenue-Generating Custom Stamp Program to Censor Religious Stamps
USPS now seeks taxpayer bailout after canceling multi-million dollar custom stamp program in order to silence religious viewpoints

Washington, DC—After First Liberty Institute helped expose unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination within a United States Postal Service (“USPS”) custom stamp program, the USPS chose to end the revenue-generating program rather than permit stamps with religious messages.  Now, the USPS seeks a taxpayer-funded bailout.

First Liberty Institute’s President, CEO, & Chief Counsel, Kelly Shackelford, released the following statement:

This is hypocrisy at its worst.  It is outrageous that the U.S. Postal Service would end a steady source of revenue that raised millions of dollars just because someone might choose a religious image on a stamp.  Now, the USPS has the nerve to demand a taxpayer bailout, rather than celebrate the principles of free, diverse speech and the free market.  Americans should reject the USPS’ audacity to now insist that taxpayers reward them for walking away from millions of dollars instead of doing the right thing and embracing free speech on postage stamps.
