First Liberty Institute Attorney Tapped to Lead Florida Civil Rights Bureau under Governor Ron DeSantis
Experienced leader brings unique expertise to state’s human rights commission.
Plano, TX—First Liberty Institute today announced that Senior Counsel Keisha Russell has been selected to lead the Florida Commission on Human Rights beginning later this month. The Commission enforces the Florida Civil Rights Act and addresses “discrimination issues through education, outreach and partnerships.”
“Keisha’s wealth of experience and innovative ideas will be an incredible asset to the State of Florida,” said Kelly Shackelford, President, CEO, and Chief Counsel for First Liberty. “Keisha is an excellent attorney and has been a valued part of our legal team. We will miss her but are excited about her new opportunity to help Floridians.”
Russell said, “I am incredibly thrilled to join the team at the Florida Commission on Human Rights in their fight to defend the civil rights of Floridians. I cannot adequately convey how honored I am for this opportunity. I am extremely grateful for my time at First Liberty and will use everything I’ve learned in my role as Executive Director.”
According to its website, The Florida Commission on Human Relations was established to investigate and resolve discrimination complaints in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and the Whistleblower’s Act.
Russell is also the author of the book, “Uncommon Courage: Defending Truth and Freedom While There Is Still Time.”
