Statement from First Liberty Institute on American Bar Association’s Rating of Judicial Nominee Jordan Pratt
President Trump nominated Judge Jordan Pratt to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida in May.
Washington, DC—The following statement may be attributed to Hiram Sasser, Executive General Counsel for First Liberty Institute:
The Honorable Jordan Pratt is a judge on the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeals. Previously, he served as senior counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice, deputy general counsel in the U.S. Small Business Administration, and deputy solicitor general in the Florida Office of the Attorney General. He has argued important cases at every level of the state and federal court systems, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Florida Supreme Court. He clerked for Judge Harvey Schlesinger on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and later clerked for Chief Judge Jennifer W. Elrod on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has been published in multiple law reviews, graduated co-valedictorian from the University of Florida, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida School of Law, where he was an Olin–Searle Fellow and editor of the law review.
The American Bar Association (ABA) says that this is not enough to evaluate Jordan because, in my opinion, they are more interested in attacking anyone with strong conservative credentials like they did to Judge Lawrence VanDyke, for example.
As a former First Liberty Institute attorney, Judge Pratt demonstrated a deep respect for and commitment to the Constitution and religious liberty, guided by the belief that government exists to protect the God-given rights of the people, and the Constitution exists to prevent government from infringing on those rights.
