Statement Regarding Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s Announcement of Reforms for Military Chaplains

Washington, D.C.—Late yesterday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced several reforms that will restore the freedom and importance of military chaplains throughout the United States military.

The following statement may be attributed to Chris Motz, Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute:

The ministry of military chaplains continues a tradition of service provided to our service men and women since 1775, making sure that those who fight to defend our nation have the spiritual guidance they need. For too long, woke activists have been able to reduce religious freedom within the military with very little resistance, including limiting the freedom of our military chaplains. That ends today. We commend President Trump and Secretary Hegseth for taking bold steps toward protecting religious freedom for those who sacrifice the most to defend it by ensuring that every chaplain in our military is able to fulfill their mission to be the spiritual light for our brave warriors.
